Exploring Higher Education, Apprenticeships, and Careers

At Richmond Sixth Form College, we encourage students to explore the full range of options before making decisions about their future. While many choose to attend university, a growing number of students pursue high-quality school leaver schemes, sponsored degrees, and apprenticeships. Students receive ongoing support from our careers team to help them make informed choices, including balancing applications for university and employment.

For those unsure of their career path, we support students in assessing their skills and interests and exploring different careers through online resources, college guidance, work experience, and professional discussions.

Students applying to university should consult the UCAS section of our website and links below and research course-specific requirements. This includes; admissions tests (e.g., UCAT, BMAT, LNAT) and auditions or portfolios for specialist courses.

Degree apprenticeships offer a combination of paid work and part-time study at university, enabling students to earn while they learn. These programmes can take three to six years to complete and are available across a range of industries. Our careers team provides support with applications and connections to local employers.

Apprenticeships also provide paid, practical, on-the-job training alongside classroom-based instruction, with no student fees. They are ideal for students with a clear career goal and are available in many sectors and job roles.
